Research interests & goals:
Jill Hamm is Director of the Social Development Intervention Research Program of the Center for Developmental Science, and Professor of Applied Developmental Science and Special Education in the School of Education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her interests include adolescent development, specifically peer relations and adjustment in school settings. She has been PI or Co-PI of studies funded by the National Science Foundation, the Institute for Education Sciences, as well as from the William T. Grant Foundation and the Spencer Foundation, to study ways in which schooling environments support positive developmental outcomes for adolescents. Her research addresses naturally-occurring academic and social processes in schools, as well as the development and testing of evidence-based professional learning experiences for teachers to support students’ academic, social, and behavioral adjustment.
