Research Interests & Goals:
Martha Putallaz is a Professor in the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience at Duke University. Her program of research focuses on the linkages between the parent and peer social systems, specifically the mutual influence of parents and peers on the development and evolution of children’s social competency, social relationships, and psychopathology. Most recently, she has been involved in a large scale, comprehensive study of the social experiences and causes specifically associated with peer rejection, aggression and victimization among middle childhood girls. Her role as the Executive Director of the Duke Talent Identification Program has led to a focus on the peer relations of academically gifted youth and the long term outcomes associated with giftedness.
